Teodoro Ted Salazar – Age 88, a resident of Española passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Alcalde, NM on March 2, 1927 to Seferino and Candelaria Salazar. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Theresa Salazar; his son, Teddy Salazar; his daughters, Ruthie Medrano, Candie Salazar and Connie Mora; his sisters, Eliza Salazar and Mercedes Maestas and his brothers, Seferino Salazar and Leandro Salazar.
Ted left Alcalde in 1946 and joined the Army. He is a proud World War II and Korean War Veteran and often shared his army stories. Ted was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge for his military service. After his time in the Army, Ted worked in the tire industry and also spent twenty years at Nambe Mills.
Ted loved to fish and go camping. When his family was young every weekend was spent packing up the camping trailer and hauling it to one of the nearby lakes. He continued to share his love of the outdoors with his grandchildren taking them fishing and on adventures to Ghost Ranch.
Ted was always a hardworking man, kind and generous to all. Ted spent many years as a deacon in his church. As of late, he spent every Sunday visiting his friends, especially those that were sick, visiting his sisters and his nephew Phillip Salazar.
Mr. Salazar is survived by his daughters, Elaine Salazar, Donna and Tony Lopez, and Wendy Saiz all of Albuquerque and his friend and caregiver, Robert Sherwood. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren who were Ted’s pride and joy, Carlos Sanchez, Nicole and Jacob Sedillo, Phillip Walck, Jennifer and Kevin Garcia, Patrick Walck, Danny Valdez, Andres Rodarte, Joseph Mora, Teddy Mora, Alicia Medrano, Christina Vasquez, Rebecca Salazar. 10 great-grandchildren also survive. Ted is also survived by two sisters, Martha Martinez and Angelina Montoya of Alcalde, sisters-in-law, Lillian and David Saiz, Shirley and Nelson Martinez, Lupita and Julian Chavez, Geraldine Martinez, Joann and Dale Miller, Darlene Naranjo, brothers-in-law, Adonais and Faby Martinez and Clifford and Angie Martinez. Many nieces and nephews, dear friends and other relatives mourn his passing. Public visitation will begin on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10:30 at the First Baptist Church in Española with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial to take place on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 9:45 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family of Teodoro Ted Salazar has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
