Horacio Romero

Horacio Romero, 79, of Vadito, NM was called to heaven on December 5, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cipriano and Eutimia Romero, infant son, John Christopher Romero, and nephews: Dennis, Steve, Nick, and Gary. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ersilia Romero, his children: Inez Lopez (Tom), Marcella Corrales (Ivan), Isabelle Romero, Roberta Irwin (Tim), and Phillip Romero (Mónica), twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, siblings: Diana Gonzales (Tony), Pete Romero (Margaret), Robert Romero (Nancy), Joe Romero (Betty), Christina Salazar, Belinda Lopez (Steve) and many beloved friends, nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers are: Orlando Lopez, Chris Corrales, Matt Corrales, Phillip J.S. Romero, Brian Irwin and Melvin Roybal. Honorary pallbearers are Simón and Joseph Horacio Romero. Horacio was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. He served as a science teacher and athletic coach at Peñasco High School for 25 years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the athletic and academic activities of his entire extended family. He was an extremely generous person who lived a life of service to others. He was an active volunteer in his community and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, teacher, coach, and friend. He was a blessing to his family and community. Horacio will be greatly missed.

Visitation on Friday, December 15, at 6:00 p.m., at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Church in Pojoaque, NM. Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 16, at 8:30 a.m., at San Antonio de Padua Church in Peñasco, NM. Horacio will be buried with military honors at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, December 18, at 12:45 p.m. The family of Horacio Romero has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
