Eugenio Lujan

Eugenio G. Lujan, 73 , born September 21, 1947 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, August 2, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Eugenio is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Lujan, sons; Gene (Valerie) Lujan, Roger (Joan) Lujan, daughter, Louise Campos (Tito), daughter Theresa Lopez (her children and grandchildren). He was the proud grandfather to Alyssa and Joseph Campos, Shayleen and Anthony Lujan, Luke Archuleta and sons, John Paul and Job, and Nichole Archuleta and sons, Rudy and Jude. He was blessed with two great-grandchildren Jaden and Adah Leyba-Moya. He is also survived by his brothers, George (Velma), Michael Lujan (Lorraine), Alfred Lujan and sister, Cecelia Lujan; sister-in-law, Tina Lujan, brothers -in-law, Horace Bustos, Antonio Ikie, Johnny, Phillip (Bertha), and Tim DeVargas, sisters-in-law, Margie Martinez (Fred), Elaine Rice, Lorraine Vigil (Fidel), and Pam Quihuis and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his youngest son Adam Lujan for whom he never stopped grieving; his mother and father, Josefina and Ruben Lujan; his father and mother-in-law, Tony DeVargas and Louise. Brother, Delfino, sister, Amelia Bustos and sister-in-law, Ruth Lujan, Brothers-in-law, Jimmy Lujan, Alfredo and Gerald DeVargas, as well as uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and good friends whom he  loved dearly. After his discharge from the US Army in 1970, he moved his young family to Espanola, NM where he lived until his passing. He was most proud to have coached his sons baseball and various sports, he cherished his trips to Denver where his daughter and son-in-law, spoiled him. He enjoyed times he and his wife played co-ed volleyball and both played softball on their respective teams. Eugenio was an Exxon service station owner for a few years until he left in April 1986 to begin a long career with the Teamsters Local Union #492 in Los Alamos, NM. His employment involved driving buses, government taxi and trucks. Gene also served as the union steward. He left KSL to work another 5 years with Portage Recycling facility also in Los Alamos until he retired in 2011. Eugenio will be remembered for his honesty and truthfulness. You always knew where you stood with him. This gained him true friends and much respect from all he knew and worked with. As with many Vietnam War Veterans, Eugenio struggled with memories of the war and in his later years, kept his feelings to share mainly with family and a very few close friends. Gene answered a call to participate in an ACTS retreat with the Pojoaque group and was most grateful for the open door that helped him work through some of his PTSD. Public visitation will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Espanola, NM, Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday August 26, 2021 at 12:00 noon,  at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. The church is still observing Covid safe practices Masks will be required. Serving as Pallbearers are Gene Lujan, Roger Lujan, Louise Campos, Tito Campos, Anthony Lujan and George Lujan. We would like to thank Ambercare staff.
