Walter Donald Gentry – born June 15, 1939 in Portales, NM to Jack Gentry and Sandra Smith, entered into eternal slumber on November 19, 2010. A 1957 Graduate of McCurdy High School, “Don” spent his early adult years working for the Santa Fe Railroad. Don was a member of IBEW Local 611. He retired from KSL in July 2004. In life, his true passion was Freemasonry. Initiated into the craft April 29, 1971 by Indian Springs Lodge N0. 48 in Nevada, he progressed quickly. Joining The Order of the Scottish Rite he attained the 32nd Degree May 12, 1976, and one of Freemasonry’s highest honors, the 33rd Degree, on December 6, 2003. Don’s Freemason honors are too many to list, but they include: Associate Grand Guardian for Jobs Daughters in 1981-1982 and Worshipful Master of Valley Lodge No. 69 in 1997. Lodges that Don was affiliated with include Indian Springs Lodge No. 48 in Nevada, Animas Lodge No. 15 and Electra Chapter 13 in Farmington, NM and Valley Lodge No. 69 in Espanola. He was a Shriner for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his father Jack. Don is survived his wife 0f 13 years, Andrea; mother Sandra; mother-in-law Joan Cain (Walter, husband); sister, Sandra Caroline Keeler (Allen, husband); brothers: Jack K. Gentry (Mary, wife), John W. Gentry ( Ellen, wife) and Michael Sean Gentry; children: Janet Brazfield (Rick, husband) and William Gentry; step-children: Arie Taylor and Jeremy Taylor (Rita Chavez, wife); grandchildren: Michelle Brazfield, Virginia Seabrook (Ryan, husband) Ryan Brazfield, Malcolm Chavez, Aryanna Taylor, and Shayla Miller-Gentry; great-grandchildren: Lana Seabrook, Hannah Brazfield, Lanie Seabrook, and McKinsie Seabrook; many other relatives including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation has taken place. Public visitation will be held on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. with a Masonic service at 6:00 p.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, 623 North Railroad Avenue, Española, NM 87532. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s name to the Scottish Rite Preservation Foundation, P.O Box 2024, Santa Fe, NM 87504-2024.
