Waldo F. - Age 80 - El Rito Lucero

Waldo F. Lucero, age 80, a resident of El Rito, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 9, 2014. Waldo was preceded in death by his parents, Doroteo and Teresita Lucero; sisters, Trinidad Lucero, Martina Trujillo, and Estephanita Maes; brothers, Fidel, Lazaro, Gilbert, Savino and Johnny Lucero; and close niece, Roberta Rivera. Mr. Lucero was a Communications Specialist and was assigned to the Artillery Division of The United States Army during the Korean War, following that he served the community of Española as a police officer for many years. He then went to work for The State of New Mexico with the department of Human Services - Income Support Division. Mr. Lucero is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ofrie Lucero of El Rito; sons, Eric Lucero and wife Cecilia of Albuquerque and Stan Lucero of the family home; daughter, Yolanda Chavez of Albuquerque; sister, Rosina Lucero of Santa Fe; brother, Roman Lucero and wife Susie of Ojo Caliente; sister-in-law, Lila Gordon of San Jose, CA; brother-in-law, Joe Valdez of Freemont, CA; granddaughters, Pauline Lucero, Reyna Tapia, and Elisha Chavez; great-granddaughter, Mykki Lucero all of Albuquerque; close cousins, Frances Jaramillo and husband Oracio of Albuquerque and Sally Leyba of Santa Fe as well as numerous other loving relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito with a Mass of christian burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Michael Chavez, Donald Alire, Jimmy Alire, Roman Lucero Jr., George Chavez and Steven Bowling. The family of Waldo F. Lucero has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory of the Espanola Valley.\r\n
