Viola - age 85 - Española Sanchez

VIOLA SANCHEZ, 85, a resident of Española, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Celestino, Benito, Arturo, Hipolito and Tony Gallegos, Josedorcio, Maximiliano and sisters, Anita, Amalia, Josefina. At age 17, Viola started working at Bishops Lodge, after her employment there she went to work at Lazars which is a shoe factory in Santa Fe. The remainder of her employment she worked at El Paragua for 18 years. However, she worked at Red’s Steak House for 35 years. She retired at age 80 after working 6 months for the Ohkay Owingeh Casino. She had a good heart and donated $16.00 a month to St. Jude for 20 years. Ms. Sanchez is survived by her children, Danny Gallegos and wife Rose, Freddy Sanchez and wife Mary, Victor Sanchez and wife Lucille, Johnny Sanchez and wife Jennifer, Lawrence Sanchez all of Española and Anna Martinez and husband Andrew of Santa Fe; sister, Juanita Lujan of Colorado; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a wake to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial to follow at the Ojo Caliente Catholic Cemetery with her children serving as pallbearers, Danny, Freddy, Victor, Johnny, Lawrence, Anna, Andrew, Griselda Estrada. Honorary pallbearers named are her grandchildren.
