VIOLA M. OLIVAS, 65, a resident of Chimayo, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, December 5, 2011 following a brief illness. Viola was preceded in death by her sons, Johnny and Chris Olivas; son-in-law, Timothy Campbell; parents, Ursulo and Louisa S. Martinez; sister, Celine Viola; grandparents, David and Romanita Salazar and Albino Martinez. Viola was born in Chimayo, and attended McCurdy Schools for many years, before graduating from Santa Cruz High School prior to attending New Mexico Highlands University. She enjoyed living in California prior to returning to Chimayo in 1976. Viola was loved dearly and she loved helping others in need; she enjoyed baking bread, making biscochitos and teaching her grandchildren how to make tortillas. She also enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She was an esclava de Nuestra Señora de Dolores Capilla and member of the Coro de la Sagrada Familia. Ms. Olivas is survived by her daughters, Doreen Campbell and Evangeline Tso-Olivas both of Chimayo; grandchildren, William, Jacob, Zachary, Dominica, Anthony, Desiree, Crystal, Dayna and Christobal; great-granddaughters, Natalia, Nicole and Mariah; brother, Roger Martinez of Chimayo; special cousins, Tillie and Art Perez and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers, William Trujillo, Jacob Tso-Olivas, Zachary Campbell, Anthony Trujillo, Jerry J. Romero and Jimmy Herrera. Honorary pallbearers named are, Dayna Campbell, Christobal Trujillo, Dominica, Desiree and Crystal Olivas. The family of Viola M.
