VINCENT MARCUS LOPEZ “CHOPPER”, 65, a lifelong resident of Chamita, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at home following a lengthy illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose G. and Olivama Lopez of Chamita; brothers, Jose G. Jr., Tomas, and Benny Lopez of Chamita, Vivian Lopez of Los Luceros and sisters, Helen Talache (brother-in-law, Joe Talache) of Ohkay Owingeh and Kathy Romero of Espanola.
Vincent was a proud Army Veteran who enjoyed the outdoors, a variety of music, old westers shows, movies, visiting with family and sharing stories of his moments in the military, adventures with friends and family members. Vincent shared a deep love for all animals and was attached to his four-legged friend, “Rocco”. Vincent also demonstrated a very comical side and loved to make his family laugh by his stories and jokes which will leave a lasting and loving memory with those who knew him.
He is survived by his two sisters, Lena Lucero of Roy, Utah (brother-in-law, Daniel Lucero), Janice Maxine Rangel of Santa Barbara, CA and his nieces whom he shared a home with and spent much time with, Angela, Leslie, Alexandra and newborn great-niece, Jazelle Faith of Ohkay Owingeh.
Special recognition to Compasses Home Health, Delia, Jackie, Sydney and Alberta, Addus Home Health Care, Rose Marie, Umelia Martinez, retired nurse and close family friend, Fresenius Kidney care staff in Espanola, VA Medical Center staff in Albuquerque, Jessica Schneider and many others. The caring staff at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory for the care and compassion shared with the family and to the Ohkay Owingeh Honor/Color Guard for bringing honor and dignity.
A rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a Mass of Christian burial to be held at 11:00 a.m. and burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Serving the family as pallbearers are Joseph (JoJo) Lopez, Jose Lopez, Alex Romero, Eppie Tapia, Christian Tapia, Christopher Tapia, Sebastian Tapia, Jessie Archuleta, Orlando Martinez, and Joshua Trujillo, honorary pallbearers named are Carl (CJ) Romero, Alexandra Martinez, and Jazelle Faith Trujillo. Refreshments and a celebration of Vincent’s life will be held at the home he shared with his nieces, 343, Po Pay Avenue, Ohkay Owingeh, NM following the burial.
