Vincent "Vinnie" Montoya

Vincent “Vinnie” Montoya, of Espanola, NM, passed away on April 19, 2023, at the age of 69. 

Vincent was born on April 5, 1954, to Mary & Atanacio Montoya in Espanola, New Mexico. As a child, Vincent was very fond of learning, he enjoyed school and reading. In addition, Vincent loved playing basketball and football with all his neighborhood friends. After graduating from Espanola high school, he went on to start his life-long career of drywall at Montoya & Sons (M&S) Drywall. 

Vincent learned the trade from his father and worked side by side with him for many years. Vincent cherished those times working with his father and brothers. After his father’s retirement, Vincent started his own business, Vincent Drywall where he serviced all over Northern New Mexico and parts of Colorado. Vincent took pride in his work and was loved by all his customers. 

Vincent then dedicated his life to caring for his mother and father. Both endured long and hard illnesses and Vincent was by their side every second. Our family will always be eternally grateful for his selflessness and incredible care he showed to our parents. Vincent enjoyed fishing, cooking, telling jokes, and being around family. He was known for his book smarts and was always teaching us all something new. He was an amazing uncle to his nieces and nephew and treated them as his own children. He will always be remembered for his contagious laugh, kindness, generosity, and love of Star Trek re-runs & the Dallas Cowboys. 

Vincent is preceded in death by his parents, Mary M. Montoya and Atanacio A. Montoya, and sister-in-law, Judith Montoya. 

Vincent is survived by his brothers, Michael D. Montoya and Joseph Montoya; Nephew, John Montoya; Nieces, Mary Arkwright (Jared Arkwright) and Joanne Matthews (Kory Matthews); Grandniece, McKinlee Jo (MJ) Matthews and Grandnephew, Klayton Thomas Matthews all of California. As well as many loving relatives and friends.

Memorial service will take place on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 10:00 am at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. Reception to follow. Vincent will be laid to rest at Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe following the reception at 2:00 pm.
