Vidal “Manzy” Valdez, 78, a resident of Española passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Valdez; daughter, Rochelle Valdez; parents, Merijildo and Emilia Valdez; brother, Pedro Valdez; sister, Avenielde Lopez; sister-in-law, Connie Valdez; special son, Ernie Fernandez; brothers-in-law: Raymond Martinez, Gus Martinez and Jose Lopez; in-laws, Emiliano and Elisia Fernandez. Vidal excelled in sports, basketball, and baseball and was a very loyal fan to his teams, the Denver Broncos, Yankees, Lakers, Norte Dame and the Kentucky Derby. He loved being a school bus driver. He enjoyed and owned race horses. He was an excellent family man. Vidal is survived by his children: Michael Valdez and Kathy of Española, Michelle Martinez and husband Rodney Sr. of La Puebla; grandchildren: Analicia Martinez and fiancé Estevan, Rodney James Martinez and wife Leah, Ayrissa Martinez all of La Puebla, Michael Valdez Jr., Cassandra Valdez and Isaiah Valdez all of Ranchitos; great-grandchild: Aria Martinez of La Puebla; siblings: Del Valdez, Ferminio Valdez and wife Julia, Sergen Martinez and Gus, Josephine and Raymond; sister-in-law, Teresina Valdez; numerous other loving relatives & friends. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with burial to follow to Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. The family of Vidal “Manzy” Valdez have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
