Vicente Lovato, 75, a resident of Hernandez passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents; Vicente Maestas and Josefa Lovato; sons, Michael and Joseph Lovato; brothers, Juan De Dios Lovato, Macario and Ben Lovato; sisters, Emily Wilson, Lena LaRue, and Emma Garcia. Vicente retired from Northern New Mexico Community College after 29 years of service, prior, he worked for Los Alamos Inn as a chef, and also at the Desert Inn in Santa Fe and Emilio’s Restaurant in Española. He also loved going for wood, piñon picking, fishing, hunting, and going to the casinos and he enjoyed watching wrestling. Vicente was a true life MacGyver who could fix anything with chewing gum and a bobby pin. He was a hard working man with a sense of humor and a strong belief in God. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Vicente is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vangie Lovato, sons, Randy Lovato and wife Velma, James Lovato and wife Adrienne, and Kenny Lovato; 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, brother-In-law; Solome Roybal and wife Feloniz, sister-in-law; Teddy Vigil. Very special nieces Helen and Audrey. Special nephew; Amos Wilson and wife Mary. Special caretakers Carmen Vargas and Raelene Olivas, and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Public visitation will begin on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez. Burial to follow at the San Jose Cemetery in Hernandez. Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Carrillo, Alfonso Romero, Arno Suazo, Steven Gutierrez, Albert Fernandez, Ramiro Pereyra, Eddie Lovato, and Lalo Lovato. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Sandoval, and Peter Flores. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. The family of Vicente Lovato has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
