Vicenta Rivera, 81, a resident of Espanola died peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2016 surrounded by her family. Vicenta was the matriarch of the Atencio Family; she was a devout parishioner of La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada Catholic Church and a member of the Santo Nino Coro de la Sagrada Familia. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a dear friend and will be dearly missed.
Vicenta was preceded in death by her parents, Marcial and Frances M. Atencio, brothers Marcial Jr. and Robert Atencio and brothers-in-law Manuel Montoya and Richard Martinez.
Vicenta is survived by her sons, Sol Rivera and Eric Rivera (Rita Lundin); grandson, Benjamin; sisters Lorraine (W.T.) Baker, Bernie Montoya, Rose Martinez and Clara Maestas; two brothers Gilbert Atencio and John (Michele) Atencio; her sister-in-law, Barbara Atencio; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A rosary will be recited on Friday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada, Santa Cruz, NM. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00 am also at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Loyola Salazar, Flora Norris, Olga Garcia, Helen Finch, Glorianna Atencio, and Teresa Martinez.
In lieu of flowers, a donation honoring Vicenta may be made in her name to Holy Cross Catholic School, P.O. Box 1260, Santa Cruz, NM 87567.
