Vance Hatler, age 48, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 2, 2016.
“I enjoyed biking with my dad and I’m glad it was the last thing he was doing.” – Kyle. We lost our loving husband and father, Vance Alan Hatler, on September 2nd, 2016. He was a devoted husband for 21 years who enjoyed his family, spending his valued time raising his children and teaching them to love God. “Dad would take us skiing, biking, and always read the bible at dinner.” – Caleb. His children remember a father who loved them and made their priorities his own. “He reads books with me every night.” – Caris. His enjoyment of the outdoors and sports allowed him to be an influence in not only his kid’s sports but their peers as well. “I loved my dad coaching us in hurdles, telling us all his stories, and cooking with me from our garden.” – Kenidee.
Vance was raised in a loving Christian family to be a generous, kind soul which allowed him to impact his community as a whole. He freely gave his time, attention, and heart to volunteering with youth and coaching many different activities. He had many friends at work and in the community, and the outpouring of care that we have been shown reflects that he was loved by many.
Vance Alan Hatler, the son of Larry and Brenda Hatler, was born in Beaumont, TX on August 29, 1968. Vance grew up in Los Alamos, NM with his brother Loren Hatler. The brothers shared a tight bond and enjoyed backpacking, fishing, and skiing together. “It was always nice to have a brother look out for you” - Loren. As a child he was active in little league, track and football. As an adult he continued to enjoy an active lifestyle of running, biking, and participating and competing in triathlons. He married Karri Hansel, also from Los Alamos, NM, on July 1, 1995. They have four beautiful children: Kenidee (17), Caleb (16), Kyle (12) and Caris (7). As a family man, he enjoyed camping, skiing, and being involved in his church community.
