Uvaldo Jacobo Velasquez, 94, died peacefully on Friday, April 4, 2014 in Youngsville with his family by his side. Uvaldo was born and raised in Youngsville. He was a steadfast man with the desire to always help people. He had a strong devotion to serving the Lord and was a faithful member of Templo Getsemani Church in Coyote. He was preceded in death by his father, Celestino Velasquez; his mother, Reducinda Velasquez; his brothers, Eduardo and Jose Lino Velasquez; sisters, Maggie Romero, Carlota Martinez, Antonia and Gregorita Velasquez. Mr. Velasquez is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cecilia Velasquez of Rio Puerco; his brother, Willie Velasquez and wife Olga of Grand Junction; his sons, Eli Velasquez and wife Vangie of Flora Vista and Eloy Velasquez of Youngsville; daughters, Patsy Serrano and husband Paul of Youngsville, Velma Lovato and husband Randy of Española and Stella Salazar of Youngsville; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Gallina Auditorium in Gallina with a devotional service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Gallina Auditorium in Gallina. Reception will follow the service at the Gallina Elementary Cafeteria. Burial to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Derek Velasquez, Victor Serrano, Jacob Velasquez, Delbert Serrano, Bryan Chacon, and Delvin Serrano. The family of Uvaldo Velasquez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
