Tom M. - age 80 - Velarde Martinez

Tom M. Martinez, 80, a resident of Velarde passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013. Tom is preceded in death by his parents; Miguel and Juanita Martinez, brothers, Frank and Victor Martinez, and sister, Rita Martinez. Tom retired as a heavy equipment operator. He was dedicated to his wife and family as well as being a hard worker and a humble man. Determination characterized this strong loving father, grandfather, and husband. Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years Cordy Martinez, daughters Patricia Navarrette, Jeanette Flores and companion Kenneth Lewis, Juanita Martinez, Liza Salazar and companion Dennis Vigil, son, Benjie and wife Jeanette Martinez, brothers, Ted and wife Carmen Martinez, Severo and wife Mary Martinez, and 9 grand children. A public visitation will begin on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde, with a burial to follow at the Velarde Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be David Martinez, Julius Reid, Jason Salazar, Randy Salazar, Thomas and Bryan Salazar, honorary pallbearers will be Ralph and Johanna Flores, Steven and Patricia Flores, Rita Ried, Mallery Martinez, and Megan Martinez. The family of Tom M. Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
