Teresa age - 85 - Coyote Barela

\r\n \r\nTeresa Barela, 85, a lifelong resident of Coyote, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. She was preceded in death by her mother, Susana Garcia; aunt and uncle who raised her, Ignacita and Alejandro Herrera; brothers, Isaac, Elipio and Octaviano Herrera, sister, Ignacita Jacquez; daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Hansen, parents-in-law, Belarmino and Rosanna Serrano and Jose and Juanita Pimentel; brothers-in-law, George Gonzales, Apolinario Trujillo, Florencio Garcia, and Johnny Jacquez, and sisters-in-law, Liova Herrera and Aggie Garcia. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed making quilts, cleaning house, canning, and caring for her flowers. She looked forward to summers because they would move to their ranch in Rito de las Sillas to tend to the garden and help her husband at the ranch. She had a passion for their cows. Her greatest joy was having her family get together for special occasions. She was a devoted Catholic, her faith was very important to her. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Manuel Barela; four sons, Nazario Barela of Coyote, Isauro Barela (Delight) of Monticello, Utah, Manuel Barela Jr. of Coyote, and Antonio Barela (Marie) of Coyote, daughter, Berlin Cordova (Lucas) of Tierra Azul; a special grandson whom she considered a son, James Barela (Rachel) and their children Ubaldo and Aleese of Alcalde; brothers, Pete Garcia, Tomas Garcia (Margaret), sisters, Adelires Trujillo, Atocha Gonzales and Asencion Martinez (Albert); sisters-in-law, Olympia Herrera, Covie Herrera and Teodora Garcia; a close cousin, Olympia Martinez. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. Public visitation will begin on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Coyote, with a burial to follow at the Coyote Cemetery, with the following serving the family as pallbearers: James Barela, Brian Barela, Dennis Barela, Brandon Barela, Cory Barela, and Jonathan Martinez. Honorary pallbearers named are: Eligio Gabe Martinez, Harold Barela, Phillip Valdez, and all of her grandchildren. The family of Teresa Barela has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
