Teresa Bustos Borrego, 91, a resident of Pojoaque, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2014, after a long illness. Teresa was preceded in death by her daughter, Carmen Seitz; sister, Grace Marshall; parents, Margarita Shoemaker and Jose Maria Bustos; grandparents, Celsa and Epifanio Bustos. Teresa was born in Pojoaque on August 11, 1923. She graduated from Pojoaque High School and attended some college at Highlands University. She also attended what was then known as Beauty College. Teresa was married to Juan Francisco Borrego on July 7, 1947. Teresa occasionally worked as a substitute teacher for Pojoaque Schools but was a stay at home mother for her six children. She took special pride in ironing linens for the church, cooking for special events and sewing costumes for her children’s school activities, and she was a den mother for the cub scouts and a 4-H sponsor. She was the business manager for her husband’s sand and gravel business in later years. She was a member of the Court Guadalupana of the Catholic Daughters and took joy in hosting the Holy Family in her home each month. She generously provided her time and resources for special events at the Pojoaque church. Teresa is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Juan Borrego; daughter, Dolores Jacobs, sons, John Borrego and wife Cathy Montoya, Christopher Borrego and wife Gail Dunlap, Edward Borrego, Nathan Borrego and wife Karen Kellovich; her grandchildren, Sabrina Salvato of Santa Fe, Whitney Ryan Jacobs of Maryland, Andrea Denzien of Binghamton, NY, Jason Borrego of Albuquerque, Johnathan Borrego of Los Angeles California, and Sarah Abeyta of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Denzien and Sophie Abeyta; step-grandmother to Joshua Romero, Jeremy Romero, Justin Dunlap and Danielle Mendoza, step-great-grandchildren, Kayla Mendoza, Brock, and Brooke Dunlap; sisters, Celsa Lucero, Margarita B. Trujillo, and Concha Collier, brother, Jose M. Bustos Jr., and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends, including Minnie Ortiz, Longino and Sophie Vigil, Mary Quintana and friends too numerous to mention. Public visitation will begin on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. also at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque. Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Whitney Ryan Jacobs, Johnathan Borrego, Jason Borrego, Scott Bustos, Joshua Romero, and Jeremy Romero. The family of Teresa Bustos Borrego has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
