She courageously battled breast cancer for over 3 years, always remaining kind, sweet, funny and strong throughout her illness. The grace she had during this trying time was a priceless lesson to us all about life, love and dying. Mrs. Vigil is survived by her son, Michael Sanchez of Roswell and fiancée Audrey Pacheco; step-children, Antoinette Vigil, Isaiah Vigil, Gretchen Valencia and Marisela Vigil all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Amya Sanchez, Natalie Vigil and Alijah Sanchez; brothers and sisters, Dora LeJeune, Mary Burrola and husband Jimmy, Rosemary Sanchez, Frank Sanchez and wife Elka, Peggy Ortiz and husband Ignacio, Isabel Silva and husband Albert, Mike Sanchez and wife Cheryl and numerous nieces nephews and other relatives and friends. Teresa grew up in Roswell, NM and earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in education from Eastern New Mexico University-Portales. She taught special education students in Dexter, NM for over twenty years and was a Special Education Program Support Specialist for the Santa Fe Public Schools for the past ten years. She devoted her 35-year career in education to working with students with disabilities and was an admirable role model and mentor to her colleagues. Teresa was also avid runner and seamstress. She recently made a garment of adoration for Our Lady of Peace at the St. Francis Basilica to honor all breast cancer patients. Teresa’s role as a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother were always her first priority. She was also very generous with her love for a large sisterhood of friends. Teresa was a woman of deep faith and her beautiful presence inspires us to be kinder, more patient and more loving towards each other in her honor. “A life not lived for others is not a life.” – Mother Teresa\r\nPublic visitation will begin on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Santa Fe with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Santa Fe.
