Steven Maestas

Steven Maestas, 57, our brother, uncle, and husband passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 8:43 pm. surrounded by his loved ones. He had a laugh and a smile that will be missed by everyone who knew him. He met Derrick while he was working in Dallas, Texas, and have been together for 26 years. 

Steven was preceded in death by our mom and dad, Emily and Art Maestas; grandparents Eddie and Jessie Martinez, Eduardo Maestas and Porfiria Bustos; and our uncle Robert Martinez. 

Steven is survived by his husband Derrick Ellis; Derrick’s mom Edna Ellis; brother Michael Smith (Maria) and sister Brittany Smith, his uncle Michael Martinez; his brothers Art (Shelly), Don (Renee), Chris (Annabelle), Derek (Corrina), Charles and Phillip (Javier); nieces and nephews Christopher, Jacob, Erin, Adam, Jessica, Dana, Jayden, Candace, Alisha, Bryan and Jerica Maestas, Zakayla and Ziane Smith; many great nieces and nephews and many close friends. Steven had three Godchildren Christopher and Jessica Maestas and Joseph Terrino. May he rest in peace, live forever in our hearts, and watch over us all.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 10:00 am at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, in the Chapel of Peace.  A meal will follow at Apple Valley Kitchen and graveside services to be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, at 2:30 pm.
