STEVE M. HERRERA, JR., 51, a resident of Velarde and formerly of El Rancho, joined our Lord and the Angels that preceded him in heaven Saturday, April 18, 2015. He was preceded in death by his loving maternal grandparents, Jose Manuel and Delia Romero; paternal grandparents, Juan and Sophie Herrera; uncles, Johnny and George Herrera and cousins, James and John Romero. Steve was a loving father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. He loved the Lord and tried to follow him by helping anyone who needed him. He loved his daughters, Desiree and Michelle unconditionally. He worked for his dad and loved so much being with him and his sister, Deborah. He enjoyed cooking with his mom and wanted to learn everything from her. He loved his plants and trees and keeping the yard without weeds. He attended Pojoaque High School and went on to New Mexico State University. He then joined the Army and proudly served his country during Desert Storm. In his journey in life he made many friends. He loved them all. He had a special love for his coaches and teammates. With their help, he became an outstanding athlete and was awarded many honors. Mr. Herrera is survived by his daughters, Desiree Herrera (Adrian) and Michelle Carreño, who he loved like a daughter; parents, Steven and Virginia Herrera; sister, Deborah, who he considered his best friend; paternal aunts and uncles, Eva Roybal (Gene), Shirley Roybal (Lenny), Matty Perez (David), Valerie Martinez (Arsenio), Tommy Herrera (Debbie) , Edward Herrera (Monique); maternal aunts and uncles, Ramona Roybal (Leroy), Marcella Haber (Mark), Louie Romero (Sylvia), Ben Romero (Evelyn), Johnny Romero (Edith), Joseph Romero; best friend, Ronald Trujillo of Farmington who he loved like a brother and many other cousins and friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a burial to follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers, Ron Trujillo, Gilbert Valdez, Joseph Romero, Mark Haber, Tommy Herrera and Anthony Garcia. The family of Steve M.
