Steve Age - 48 - Española Vigil

d. March 22, 2012

Steve Eric Vigil 48, of La Mesilla, went peacefully to be with our Lord surrounded by his family on March 22, 2012. Steve was born in Fort Hood, Texas on March 25, 1963. Steve comes from a loving family in La Puebla. He grew up between Garden Grove, California and La Puebla, NM; returning back to New Mexico as a teenager where he started his own family. He dedicated his life to the Lord and raised his family in the same manner. Steve was loved by many and would do anything he could for anyone who would accept his help. Steve always kept family close to his heart and provided for them unconditionally. He touched many lives not just his family but friends alike. There were few of those friends who became like brothers to him. He provided the upmost guidance to his family; he taught them the skills of becoming strong individuals and finding their inner strength. It is because of him that they have learned a never say die attitude. Steve was an inspiration to many; he provided guidance to those he came in contact with and always greeted those around him with constant respect. Steve was a generous man with a large heart and he shared all he could with his family and friends. He endured many hardships and difficulties in his life but never allowed anything to make him feel defeated. He overcame all obstacles in his way and this is why he was a great role model and mentor to the young individuals in his life. His impression will live on forever in those he touched.\r\nHe enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and bike riding through the Trout Lakes in Cebolla, NM. He spent his time there with family and friends and considered the mountains his second home; he loved being in the mountains and called it “God’s Country”. It is there where the best of his life’s memories were made.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Simon Vigil; maternal grandparents, Natividad Baca and Beatrice Baca; and his father, Estevan Vigil. He is survived by his children: Steven Vigil and fiancé Vanessa Tapia, Desirae Montoya and husband David Jolen Montoya all of La Mesilla; paternal grandmother, Mary Vigil of La Puebla; mother, Elsie Duran and step-father Ruben Duran of La Mesilla; his siblings: Donna and husband Dan McNevin of Ojo Caliente and Glen Vigil and wife Cindy of Orange, California; seven grandchildren: Alyssa Cross Vigil, Jorden Vigil, Maya Vigil, Evanissa Martinez Vigil, Marcos Vigil, Jolen Montoya and Josiah Montoya; One nephew, Estevan Vigil; and four nieces: Jessica, Rebecca, Doniel, and Desirae; numerous other loving relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. The family of Steve Eric Vigil have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
