STANLEY ALLAN BIRD SR. “POP”, 59, a resident of Ohkay Owingeh, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010. He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Bird; father, John Floyd Bird Jr.; brothers, Eusevio “Sabie” Bird and Floyd Bird; grandmother, Josephine Cata; niece, Regina Herrera; step-father, Leonard Whitehouse; sister, Yvonne Carol Bird; great-grandparents, Eulogio and Regina Cata. Mr. Bird is survived by his wife of 37 years, Hwa “Ogie” Bird of Ohkay Owingeh; children, Julie Bird and companion Jerome T. Williams of Española, Stanley Bird Jr. of Albuquerque and Shaun Bird and Samuel Bird of Ohkay Owingeh; mother, Consuelo “Connie” Whitehouse of Ohkay Owingeh; mother-in-law, Ha Aggie of South Korea; brothers and sisters, Deacon John Bird and wife Juanita, Minnie Bird and companion Jake Montoya, Deborah Herrera, Jose “Joey” Herrera and wife Carla all of Ohkay Owingeh, Lenora Bird and companion Bill Harris of Albuquerque, Vivian “Spooky” Bird and Bryanna Bird-Martinez both of Ohkay Owingeh; grandchildren, Jeramiah Padilla, Kaelyn H. Bird and Taliyah S. Bird, Riley Charles, Tyranny H. Bird, Stevie O. Bird and Imani P. Bird and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Monday, October 4, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the family home in Ohkay Owingeh. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Assisting the family as pallbearers will be John Abeyta, Bruce Kee, Gabriel Naranjo, James Garcia, Edgar Cata, Ray Velasco, Greg Cassler, and Floyd Garcia. Honorary pallbearers are Fernando Torres, Shorty Trujillo and Joe Ortiz. The Bird family has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
