Soraida Olguin Age - 83 Chamita Gonzales

Soraida Olguin Gonzales, 83, was born on September 2, 1927 to Pedro Olguin and Teresita Dominguez of Chamita, New Mexico. Soraida passed away on April 28, 2011 after a brief illness. As a young woman she worked as a Harvey girl at the La Fonda Hotel and later began working at the White Swan Laundry where she met her husband Frank Gonzales, the two were married 43 years. Together they shared 3 daughters, Gloria, Lorraine and Teresa. She worked at the El Rey Inn for 21 years as housekeeper and resided in Santa Fe for most of her life. As a caretaker of many she made many friends in Santa Fe, along with her younger brother Ernesto Olguin whom she cared for and was her companion for a long time. She took great pride in her work and enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and recently great-grandchildren. When both of her companions had passed she moved back to Chamita to spend her remaining years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Teresita Olguin of Chamita; husband, Frank Gonzales; brother, Ernesto Olguin; sisters: Bernie Harvey, Octaviana Baca and husband George Baca; nephew, Jack Valdez; great-niece, Cathy Watson; great-nephew, Joseph Valdez and niece, Angie Valdez. Soraida is survived by her daughters: Gloria Gonzales of Chamita, Lorraine and husband Orlando Ortiz of Albuquerque, Theresa and husband Charlie Oviedo of Denver, Colorado; granddaughters: Regina and husband Henry Martinez, Angela Alfaro; grandsons: Benjamin Oviedo and wife Naomi and Reyes Oviedo; seven great-grandchildren: Erica and Rebecca Martinez, Valeria, Julia, Felipe Alfaro Jr., Joshua and Gabriel Oviedo; many cousins, friends and furry companions. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Public visitation will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at Devargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe with the following serving as pallbearers: Henry Martinez, Regina Martinez, Richard Valdez, Benjamin Oviedo, Reyes Oviedo, Adrian Montoya and Orlando Ortiz; honorary pallbearers: Angela Alfaro, Erica Martinez, Pete Valdez and Berna Montoya.
