Sixto “Tito” Martinez Jr., of Medanales, New Mexico, went to be with Our Lord on Monday, April 22, 2024, at home after a lengthy illness.
Tito was a very laid back and generous person. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and the homeless. Tito always had visitors and placed a high priority on maintaining relationships with his family and friends. Tito’s most important relationships were with his parents. Just as his father did before him, he devoted his life to caring for his parents. He had a prominent presence. Everyone who knew him thought the world of him, and he will be dearly missed.
Tito spent over 25 years as a civil engineer for the state of New Mexico after graduating from EVHS and UNM. His life was dedicated to his parents and their homestead. In the Summer, there would be rows of chile, cucumbers, zucchini, among others in their garden. In the Fall, there would be bales of hay as far as the eye could see. All year long there was an ambience of chickens, cows, goats, sheep, cats, and dogs.
He is preceded in death by his parents Sixto and Lucy Martinez; godparents Margargarito and Lisa Garcia; grandparents Benceslado and Celia Martinez; JuanAntonio and Bernedita Martinez; nephew Joseph Ortega, unborn niece Monica Ortega, close cousin Juan Reyes, and many other extended family.
He is survived by his beloved sister Marcella Ortega (Edward Lucier) and nephews: Jesse and Sara Ortega and their daughter Kalia; John and Maria Ortega and their children Martin, Estrella, Luciana, Nevaeh, Maribel; Anneliza and Joseph Ortega, and their mother Kathleen. Aunts Maryann Seiz, Josie and Edward Vigil, Uncle Manual, and many other extended family.
A public viewing will take place on April 30, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. and a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel.
