Sammy “Sammy Lion” J. Martinez – Age 53 a resident of Chimayo passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Leon Martinez; son, Benito Serrano; and a nephew, Kryss Martinez; in-laws, Seferino and Marcella Serrano; special uncle, Fidel Martinez. Mr. Martinez was a life member of the Catholic Church, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, music and he enjoyed cars. He is survived by his son, Christopher Serrano de Martinez and fiancé Deanna Herrera; mother, Ramonicita Martinez; brother, Nick Martinez; mother of his children, Yvonne Serrano; nephew, Paul Romero and wife Rachael; nieces: Sara And Isabelle Romero all from Rio Ranch; uncle, Ernesto and wife Adela; a very dear aunt, Adonelia Martinez, all from Chimayo; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law: Ella Lujan and companion Ron, Eve Archuleta and husband Dennis, Jane Ortiz and husband Armando, Susie Aveldino and husband Manuel, Seferino Serrano and wife Thelma, Linda Carnley, Annie Jaramillo and companion David; special nieces: Marcella Martinez and Daisy Sandoval and Desiray Sandoval; and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Chimayo with burial to follow at Nuestra de Señora de Dolores in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers: Johnny Martinez, Norman Olivas, Dennis Serrano, Fabian Trujillo, Jessie Naranjo, and Lenny Martinez.
