Salomon Griego, 95, from Dixon, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving daughter/caregiver Esther Griego. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorenza Griego, son Godfrey Griego, father Donicio Griego, mother Patricia Griego, sisters Maybel Sanchez, Amandita Armijo, brother Elive Griego, sisters in law Ramona Vigil and Rosa Sandoval, brother in law Benino Vasquez, Piedad and Donaciano Vasquez, in laws. He loved his family unconditionally. He married Lorenza Vasquez and raised his six children in Dixon, NM. He was an inspiring teacher and father to his children in their early years. Salomon was a wise and strong willed man. His faith in God was dear to his heart. He loved to garden and care for his sheep. He enjoyed watching boxing, basketball, baseball and wrestling. He liked to joke with family and friends, putting a smile on their faces. He was a smart man of integrity who was admired and respected by many who knew him. Mr. Griego was a self-made man until he retired. He worked hard striving to get things done right knowing that hard work would pay off. He was a proud World War II Veteran and served in the Army from 1941 until 1944. He traveled to northern Africa where he made runways for air planes. He is survived by his daughters, Eva Valdez (Eloy), Doris Griego (Norman), Shirley Griego (Horacio), Esther Griego, and son Jerry Griego (Tamara Trujillo), brother Jose Griego and sister Bertha Roybal; grandchildren Domonic Valdez (Audrey), Norman Jr. and Daniel Martinez, Erica and Apryl Aguilar, Isaac Griego (Mershawn), Zachary Griego, Tasheena Griego (Benito). Great grandchildren, Isiah Martinez, Nikkolas and Haylee Valdez, Liliana and Joseph Griego, and Josie Griego-Garcia.
Public visitation will begin on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 6:00p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, with a devotional service to follow at 7:00p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 10:30a.m., also in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, with graveside services to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45p.m. Carrying Salomon to his final resting place will be his son Jerry Griego, brother Jose Griego, and grandsons, Domonic Valdez, Norman Jr. and Daniel Martinez, Isaac and Zachary Griego. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters and great grandchildren.
