SALOMON LOVATO, SR., 97, a lifelong resident of Coyote, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Salomon was a rancher, grazing permittee as early as the 1920’s. He worked for the Forest Service for 60 years and was involved in politics and was elected County Commissioner in the 1950’s. Mr. Lovato served as board member of the Jemez Mountain schools for several years and was an avid Leopard fan. He was active in the planning of the gymnasium the school currently has. He was a member of the Cofradia de Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno and also a member and heir of the San Joaquin Land Grant. Mr. Lovato was born on June 23, 1914 in Coyote to Reynel Garcia and Teresa Lovato. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adrianna Lovato; father, Reynel Garcia; mother, Teresa Lovato; grandfather, Jose Ignacio Lovato; sisters, Ignacita Herrera and Susana Garcia; brother, Melisendro Lovato and daughter-in-law, Genara Lovato. Mr. Lovato is survived by his children, Salomon Lovato (Glenda), Andres ( Lucy), Chris (Marlene), Richard, Joseph (Susan) and Randy; grandson that he raised, Christopher (Karen), Eliza Martinez (Andy), Genara Archuleta (Moises), Theresa Velasquez (Freddie), Evelyn Martinez (Andy), Thelma Chavez (Ronnie) and Grace Salazar (Eddie); 37 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu. Burial to follow at the Coyote Catholic Cemetery with his sons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his daughters. The family of Salomon Lovato, Sr. has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
