Sally - Age 89 - Española - Gonzales

SALLY GONZALES, 89, a long time Española Valley educator passed away at her home on Sunday, August 24, 2014 following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her father, Severo Gonzales; mother, Amada Gonzales; brothers, Manuel and Ernest Gonzales; sister, Leonila Medina and nephew Larry Gonzalez. Sally taught for 27 years in the Española School system during which she touched the lives of many. Upon retirement she continued her teaching traditions with the family of Juan Gabriel as well as Elder Hostel. She remained active in professional organizations. She was an active participant in all aspects of Sacred Heart Parish, was a longtime member of the Hospital Auxiliary, an avid bowler, was quite humorous and was very proud of her creative writing abilities. Ms. Gonzales is survived by her nieces and nephews, Patricia Sacoman, Lenore Bragaw, Patricio Gonzales, Sally Jo Apodaca, Danny Medina, Freddy Medina, Gene Medina, Robert Medina, Eileen Gaspard, Lonnie Medina, Nancy Noyola, Cindy Pejka; sister-in-law, Celestina Gonzales; special God-daughter, Tamarah Lucero; lifelong friends, Rosina and Frank Ready and other relatives and friends. Her neighbors were family and cared for her dearly. Special thanks to her caregiver, Greg Lopez, who made her last year very special. Thank you to Ambercare Hospice. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 6:30p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Gregory Lopez, Andres Apodaca, Robert Lucero, Jr., Patricio Gonzales, Mark Hernandez, Randy Moyer, Dannie Medina and Walter Apodaca. The family of Sally Gonzales has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
