Rumaldo "Rumie" Borrego

Rumaldo “Rumie” Abel Borrego , 88, passed away at home surrounded by family on Friday, September 13, 2019. He was born February 7, 1931 in Espanola (Santo Nino), New Mexico to Vicente and Beroniz Borrego.

At the age of 17, he entered the National Guard and then enlisted in the U.S. Army.  Rumie was a carpenter and worked for 33 years at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and horseraces.  Rumie was a kind and hardworking man, who loved his family and friends.

Rumie was preceded in death by his daughter, Caroleen Borrego; parents, Vicente and Beroniz Borrego; brothers, Jose, Henry, Ross, Ernesto and Ruben Borrego; sisters, Tita Archuleta, Eliza Trujillo, Theresa Radosevich; and beloved nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law.

Rumie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Louise; son, Ruben Borrego and Jeanne Silverberg; his daughter, Kathleen Borrego Martinez and son-in-law, Richard Martinez; his grandchildren, Ruben Armand and wife Kelly Borrego, Alana Martinez, Amanda Martinez, and Dominique Borrego; his brother, Placido Borrego and sister, Marie Pacheco, as well as many appreciated brothers and sisters-in-law, daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.  The family would especially like to thank all who assisted in caregiving.

A rosary will be recited on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, with a memorial mass following at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church. The family of Rumaldo “Rumie” Abel Borrego has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
