Ruben (Kino) Chavez, 87 a longlife residence of La Puebla and raised in Leyba. NM (near Villanueva) was called Home to the Lord on December 30, 2021.
Ruben (Kino) is survived by his wife, Edna Dorothy Chavez, daughters Ramona Gurule (Gilbert), Anna Marie Reza (Miguel), Lorraine Alderate (Frank), Evelyn Tennant (Todd) and Angela Romero, grandchildren Chela, Manda, Jacob, and Angelo Gurule, Erin Reza, Ben, Isaiah, Alyssa Marie and Ramona Alderate, Antonio, Patrice and Ashley Lucero, Emilio, Danny, Ray and Frances Romero, brothers Victor Chavez, Willie Chavez (Betty), Salvador Chavez (Olivia), Roy Chavez (Kathy), sisters Ramona Baker (Ken), Josie Hernandez and many nieces and nephews, and relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Daniel Chavez, mother Juanita Tapia, brother Alfonso Chavez, daughter Mary Jane Gurule.
On November 2, 1974, Ruben (Kino) married Edna Dorothy Chavez. They lived in Santa Fe and eventually made their home in La Puebla, NM. Ruben (Kino) worked many little jobs. He worked with Ulibarri Construction as a laborer/driver and worked as a security guard at La Alegria in Santa Fe where he met Edna. He also drove Edna to work in Santa Fe to take care of three little kids, Michael, Miquela and Cora who they cherished.
Every morning after breakfast, Ruben (Kino) would deck himself all up by putting his favorite cowboy shirt, his vest, his cowboy boots, and his cowboy hat. He would go to his favorite pastime, which included going to McDonalds to go have coffee with his friends, and then swinging by the casinos to see if he could win his millions. Ruben (Kino) also enjoyed playing the guitar and entertaining his neighbors with his crazy songs.
Ruben (Kino) will be greatly missed by his wife, family, and friends.

Rosary will be recited on Monday January 24, 2022 at 10:30 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM. Mass of Christian burial will follow January 24, 2022 at 11:00 am, same day and place, with burial to follow at La Puebla Cemetery.
The family of Ruben (Kino) Chavez has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home of Espanola.
