RUBEL ERNEST LEYBA, son, father, cousin, nephew and friend was called upon unexpectedly to his resting place as he was taken to Heaven on December 10, 2020 at the age of 42. There he will be greeted by his loving sister, RoseAnne; maternal grandparents, Zebedeo and Frutosa Martinez; paternal grandparents, Fred and Margaret Leyba; uncle, Marcus Martinez; a close cousin, Isaac “Ike” Sandoval and may other family members. Rubel was employed by the Espanola Transit Mix as an Assistant Batch Plant Manager. He was a hard worker who was well liked and respected at his place of employment as well as around his circle of friends. Rubel was a fun-loving person and his wittiness always brought fun and laugher to all who surrounded him. Rubel will always be remembered for his love for life that radiated when he barbequed and spent time with his girlfriend, family members, and while boating and fishing with his close friends. He enjoyed cooking all, he loved his mother more than anyone in the whole world. The last text message he sent was, “Tell my mom I love her.” Rubel is survived by his mother, Marsha Maestas (Roy); father, Ernest Leyba (Adrianne); his children, Anessa and D’Marcus; his significant other, Sarah Lovato; step-brother, Jesse Maestas; aunts, Beatrice Salazar (Wayne), Patricia Trujillo, Dora C de Baca (John); uncles, Robert Martinez (Irma), Eric Martinez (Judy), Richard Martinez (Annette), Arnie Martinez (Yvette), Larry Trujillo; close cousin,s Tamara Granado (Manuel), Felicia Trujillo and many other close cousins, family and friends. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Española with the following serving as pallbearers, Bryan Montoya, Orlando Griego, Joezzeb Martinez, Joseph Leyba, Jesse Maestas, Arnold Martinez Jr. and Mark Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are Erica Martinez, Krista Martinez and Tamara Granado. The family of Rubel Ernest Leyba has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
