Rosendo Filimon - Age 74 - Chimayo Martinez

Rosendo Filimon Martinez – Age 74 a resident of Chimayo passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2012 with his loving family at his side following a short battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Martinez; father, Emiliano Martinez; mother, Ramoncita Martinez; brothers: Eliseo, Benny, Carmen and Vicente Martinez; sisters: Cordelia Marquez, Ancelma Pacheco and Adelina Romero. Rosendo was a well known man in the Española Valley. He was a carpenter by trade and one of the original founders of the Los Bajitos Car Club. He was a generous man with his time, he donated his time to the senior center in Chimayo and also the caretaker of the El Potrero Cemetery in Chimayo. One of his favorite past times was to volunteer to pick up day old bakery goods and deliver them to those in need or anyone who wanted them. Mr. Martinez was loved by all who knew him and he will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife, Rose Martinez of Chimayo; sons: Phil Martinez and wife Jackie of Dallas, TX and Joseph Martinez and wife Carmen of Santa Fe; close nephew, Sammy Martinez and wife Debbie of Chimayo; grandchildren: Stephanie, Natalie, Ross III all of Dallas, TX, Darren and wife Brandy of Chimayo, Tosha of Phoenix, AZ and Jacob and Jenny of Chimayo; great-granddaughter, Eliana of Chimayo; sister-in-law, Tillie Martinez of Chimayo; brother-in-law, Ruben Pacheco of California; close friends: Lillian Lopez Martinez of Chimayo and Crucita Lopez of Chimayo; and numerous nieces, nephews and close relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with burial to follow at El Portero Cemetery in Chimayo Serving as pallbearers will be: Mel Garcia, Sammy Martinez, Darren Maestas, Jacob Martinez, Jerry Romero and Benny Martinez. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Dennis Chavez, Ray Casias, Julian Quintana, Dr. Ricardo Calsada, Jimmy Medina, Erasmo and Milfred Martinez.
