Rose N. Martinez, 76, a resident of Chimayo, passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, June 13, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gregorio and Honorata Mondragon; husband, Ross Martinez; son, Ricky Martinez; grandson, Gabriel Duran; sisters, Aurora Mondragon and Loretta Montoya; Brothers-in-laws, Carmen Martinez, Eliseo Martinez, Vicente Martinez, and Benny Martinez, sister-in-law, Cordelia Marquez, Anselma Pacheco and Adelina Romero. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She will be greatly missed. Rose loved reading, cooking, and going to the casinos. Her favorite team was the Forty-Niners. She worked and retired from the Department of Transportation in Santa Fe, and she resided in Chimayo until the passing of her husband which then she relocated to Dallas Texas. Mrs. Martinez is survived by her son, Phil Martinez and wife Jackie of Dallas, daughter, Roberta Duran and husband Michael of California, brother, Gabriel and wife Helen Mondragon of Santa Fe; sisters, Toni Quintana of San Pedro, Lucy Archuleta of Santa Cruz; close nephew Sammy and his wife Debbie Martinez of Chimayo; step-son, Joseph Martinez and wife Carmen of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Ross Martinez III, Natalie Martinez, Stephanie Martinez, Darren Maestas and wife Brandy, Tosha Martinez, Dominic Duran and Wife Joni, great-grandchildren, Elliana and Adriana Maestas, and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, with a burial to follow at El Potrero Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers Darren Maestas, Jacob Martinez, Ross Martinez III, Greg Mondragon, Glenn Archuleta, and Ray Montoya.
