ROSE MARTINEZ LOVATO, 84, born July 30, 1931 a lifetime resident of Española passed away peacefully on June 5, 2016 after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s disease.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Filiberto Lovato; sons, Leroy, Michael and Jimmy Lovato; parents, Carlos and Aurora Martinez; in-laws, Eledo and Fransequita Lovato.
Rose is survived by her children, Johnny Whetsell, Sr. and wife Gloria, of Española, Susie Salazar and husband Elmer, of Velarde, grandchildren; Johnny Whetsell, Jr. and wife Margaret, of Rio Rancho, Michelle Whetsell of Española, Mary Robledo of Borger, TX and Teresa Lopez of Oceanside, CA., Michael Salazar of Chama, Rosie Salazar of Velarde and Bryan Salazar of Albuquerque. Great grandchildren, Jamie Arguello, of Colorado Springs, CO, Kristina Arguello, of Albuquerque, Alyssa and Kaitlyn Whetsell, of Keene, TX, Elizabeth and Johnny Whetsell, III, of Rio Rancho, Evette, Aurora, Aoloni and Davina Lopez of Oceanside, CA and Roberto, Nicolas, Graciela, and Johnny Robledo of Las Vegas, NV; Great-great grandchildren, Sofia Rose Salazar, of Velarde and Aria Arguello, of Colorado Springs, CO, her loving sister, Alice Martinez; niece Gloria and husband Lawrence Romero of Espanola and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ambercare for their care and support, in particular Emily and Rose. A special thanks to Adriana Muñoz and Chanel Brandstetter for the loving care they gave to our mother. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Espanola, with a burial to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers, Johnny Whetsell, Jr., Michelle Whetsell, Alyssa Whetsell, Michael Salazar, Rosie Salazar and Bryan Salazar, honorary pallbearers will be her great and great-great grandchildren. The family of Rose Martinez Lovato has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
