Ronald La Pointe

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ronald J. La Pointe. He was born on September 15,1943. He will be greeted by his parents, Rose Mae and Opie La Pointe; his brother, Lemoyne La Pointe; sister, Eileen Luxon and his daughter, Kathy La Pointe. He will also ride his favorite horse Blackjack across the open prairie again and will definitely be petting his cat Max. Ron or Ronnie, learned to ride horseback before he could walk. He was also the best roper in all of Ironwood. He would always be out in the pasture, rounding up calves for branding or out down at the “old place” checking on the horses.  He was a hunter, a trapper, an avid reader and an all-around good man. He was always willing to help out, he could fix anything. Ron was also a veteran of the United States Air Force, 3rd class and Counter Intelligence Operations Specialist. Ron loved cooking and baking. Those in “the know” will miss his cinnamon rolls and pies made from scratch. We always looked forward to pancakes on Sunday morning and popcorn balls made from corn syrup. Ron worked for the BIA as a housing inspector and at the PERA building in Santa Fe.  He enjoyed to visit and drink coffee and he always carried his green thermos with him. Take comfort in knowing he went peacefully and that he is now with loved ones. Ron is survived by his wife, Rozella La Pointe; daughter, Lisa La Pointe-Tafoya and husband Mel; grandsons, Alex La Pointe and wife Brandi and Logan La Pointe; his brother Neal and wife Dorothy La Pointe as well as many other relatives. A wake will be held at Velma Baca’s house in Santa Clara Pueblo on Tuesday evening, June 26, 2018.  Burial will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. following gravesite services only in Santa Clara Pueblo. The family of Ronald J. La Pointe has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
