Robert G. Felix, age 79, a resident of Espanola, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, June 14, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phil Felix and Pauline Wright; step-father, Carlos Giron; uncle, Danny Wright, aunt, Annie Granito, and other uncles and aunts that he loved dearly. Robert was a longtime retired music teacher throughout the Española Valley. Mr. Felix’s number one love and passion was introducing and teaching music to his students and children in the Espanola Valley. It was once estimated Mr. Felix touched the lives of over thousands of students through his teachings. By the time he retired he was teaching music to kids of kids of kids or third generation music students. A career highlight was having his band represent the Española Valley and the State of New Mexico at the 1984 Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California. Mr. Felix was recognized by the New Mexico Teachers Association and inducted in the New Mexico Music Educator’s Hall of Fame, as well as awarded Man of the Year by the City of Española. Robert is survived by his wife, Vivian L. Felix of Española; step-daughter, Pamela J. Valdez and husband Rudy of Española, step-son, John Herrera of Santa Fe; grand-daughter, Jaclyn J. Valdez of Española, grandson, Joshua J. Valdez of Española; brother-in-law, Genaro Lujan and wife Karen of Santa Cruz;  sisters, Mary Jane Felix of Albuquerque, Rita Vargas and husband Ernie of Albuquerque and Teresa Roybal and husband David of Santa Fe, brothers, Bill Felix and wife Susan of Albuquerque, Carlos (Chuck) Giron of Albuquerque; very close friend, Ernest Sanchez and wife Connie of Santa Fe. The family would like to recognize the comfort and support Mr. Felix received during the final stages of his life from Roseann and Jimmy Silva. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 6:00p.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Espanola, with wake service at 6:30p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00p.m. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 10:30a.m. also at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Espanola with burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
