RICO JAMES MARTINEZ, 39, a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 in Las Cruces. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Solomon and Pauline Martinez and Atanacio and Bernie Fernandez; uncles, Melcor, Avenicio and Gilbert Fernandez. Rico was a chef by trade. He was a very good, loving and compassionate person. He was a very good dad and son. He always went out of his way to call a family member on all occasions. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Martinez is survived by his mother, Geneva Fernandez; father, Fred Martinez and Dilashub; his companion, Angelica Lara; beautiful daughters, Jerzie Rae and Anjolie; in-laws, Demetrio and Anita Lara; brother-in-law, Carlos Lara; special cousin that he loved, Mary Alice Molina; aunts and uncles, Merenciano Fernandez, Stella and Felix Vigil, Maxine and Danny Cordova, Ray Martinez, Jesse and Patty Martinez and Darlene Martinez and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Cemetery in Chimayo, with the following serving as pallbearers Carlos Lara, Isaac Romero, Ruben Montoya, Lupe Torrez, Ray Martinez, and Jay Martinez.
