RICHARD LEE DOWDY, JR. (Dickie), 60, a lifelong resident of Espanola, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 30, 2012. Dickie was a loving and generous man. He touched many lives not just family but friends alike. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a proud Navy veteran who served two tours on The USS Edson.\r\n He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lee Dowdy Sr. and wife Susan Dowdy. He is survived by his children: James Dowdy and wife Monica and Heidi Martinez and husband Phillip; mother, Tillie Dowdy-Trujillo; his siblings: Ron and wife Karen, Tom and wife Gail, Patsy Torrez; one granddaughter, NaCole Martinez; nieces and nephews: Terie, Sharon, Shaun, Clint, Mike and Chris; Step- sons: Tom and Steve Moore; special friends: Pancho and Juanita Gallegos; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a wake to follow at 7:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with burial to take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. The family of Richard Lee Dowdy, Jr. (Dickie) have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
