Richard Age - 64 - Ohkay Owingeh Martinez

Richard Martinez, 64, a resident of Ohkay Owingeh passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. He was a minister of Hospitality and Eucharistic ministries at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Richard was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3314 for 35 years. He served two terms as Governor of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo, 1984-1985 & 1986-1987. He served in the United States Army, 1968-1970 in the Vietnam War and 1970-1972 in the Army Reserves. Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his parents, Ismael and Tonita Martinez; brothers: Vicente, Eddie and Raymond Martinez; sisters: Luggie White, Reycita Aguino; brother-in-law, Paul Gabaldon; father-in-law, Tony Gabaldon; mother-in-law, Josephine Gabaldon; sister-in-law, Geronima Ortiz. Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Eliza G. Martinez; daughters: JoAnn Calabaza and husband David, Kimberly Abeita and husband Sam Sr.; son, Gary Martinez; grandchildren: Tenanya Abeita and companion Bernie Jaramillo, Sam Abeita Jr., Megan Martinez, Tanya DeCora, Lance Calabaza and companion Patty; great-grandchildren: Angelo DeCora, Adrian Martinez, Savannah DeCora and Chamuel Jaramillo; brother, Joe Martinez and wife Alice; sister, Elizabeth Trujillo; brother-in-law, Max Ortiz Sr.; sisters-in-law: Tonita Gabaldon, Pauline Aquino and husband Robert, Senaida Gabaldon, JoAnn Cruz and husband JC; also many dear nieces, nephews, god-children, numerous other family members & friends. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the family home with a second rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with burial to follow at Ohkay Owingeh Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Chris Gabaldon, Boyce Ortiz, Marvin Gabaldon, Sr., Raymond Povijua, Chris Thronas, Lance Calabaza, Loren Montoya, Lindbert Martinez, Marvin Trujillo, Howie Dishta and James Suina; honorary pallbearers: Elijah Thronas, Sam Abeita, Sr., Sam Abeita, Jr., Chamuel Jaramilo, Bernie Jaramillo and David Calabaza.
