Richard Valdez

Richard G. Valdez , age 79, the rock of his family and a resident of La Villita, went to his eternal home with our Lord on Friday, January 25, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelio and Cruzita Valdez; sisters, Frutosa Dupree; Edumenia Martinez; Criselda Trujillo; and Mary Garcia; brothers, Rosinaldo Valdez; Floyd Valdez and wife Viola Valdez; beloved grandchildren, Ricky and Reyna Martinez.

Richard will always be remembered for his infectious smile and his hazel green eyes, not to mention his sense of humor and quick wit.  He had a great desire to help others and enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, hunting, and camping. Richard will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Angie Valdez; beloved daughters, Belinda Valdez; Geraldine Shaw (Rick); Louise Maestas (Lawrence); and Raymond Martinez; Brothers, Alfonso (Rachel); Elias (Gloria); Miguel (Teresa); Clyde (Lucille); Ruben (Jenny); David (Grace); Sisters, Alisandra Martinez and Irene Valdez; his beloved grandchildren, Raylyne Lujan (Nathan); Jessica Garcia (Josh); and Dana Maes (Loren); his beloved  great-grandchildren, David; Mathias; Noah; Kaiden; Maleah; and Tessa; and many other relatives and friends.

A rosary will be recited on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Church in Ohkay Owingeh with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated immediately after at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at La Villita Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Raymond Martinez, Paul Martinez, Joseph Medina, Wilbur Martinez, Lawrence Naranjo, Gerald Valdez, and Rodney Valdez. Honorary pallbearers will be, Rick Shaw, Jessica and Josh Garcia, Dana and Loren Maes, Raylyne and Nathan Romero, David Lujan, David R. Lujan, Mathias Garcia, Noah Maes, Kaiden Romero, Maleah Garcia, and Tessa Maes. The Family has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espanola Valley.
