Richard Salazar

Richard Salazar, 67, of Alcalde NM, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on August 23, 2024. 

Richard graduated from Santa Cruz High as a Crusader in 1975. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy and served for 4 years. He enjoyed hunting,camping and watching his Denver Broncos, his favorite football team . What he enjoyed most was working outside in his yard. He was very proud of it and it was immaculate. He worked as a trucker until his retirement where he made many friends. 

Richard was preceded in death by his son Richie Salazar; father Abad Salazar; sister Yvonne Salazar; paternal grandparents Herman and Georgia Salazar; maternal grandparents Aaron and Angelina Gonzales and father-in-law Luis Maestas. 

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Margaret Salazar; mother Corine Salazar, sisters Lorraine Smith (Russell) and Margaret Archuleta (Roger); brother-in-law Sam Estrada; brother Robert Salazar (Naomi); Susan Brick who he considered a sister; mother-in-law Irene Maestas; in-laws Devonna Maestas, Mario Maestas (Berla) and Lois Rael (Jerry); several beloved nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. 

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024 a Rosary will take place at Holy Cross in Santa Cruz, NM at 9:30 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. The burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. A reception will be held at the Faternal Order of Eagles (833 Early Street) in Santa Fe, NM, following the burial.

Serving as Pallbearers, Sam Estrada, Tommy Archuleta, Roy Maestas, Marvin Maestas, Jared Rael, and Herman Salazar III. Honorary Pallbearers, Lawrence Salazar, Jerry Rael, Mario Maestas, Marcos Archuleta, Cruz Salazar, Chris Quintana, Leonard Archuleta and Wilbur Martinez.
