RICHARD TAPIA, 81, following a lengthy illness, he was called home by his Savior on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. He was a resident of Pojoaque and was a member of the Pueblo of Pojoaque. During his younger life he was an avid farmer and also worked for the Railroad out of Dumas and Amarillo, Texas. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict Era and was a member of the Army of the United States. As a hobby he enjoyed silversmithing, gardening and playing the slots. There are no words to express our sorrow; but we are thankful for our time with him and the joyous times he brought to our lives. The family thanks so many people for their love and care of countless devoted family and friends. They built a strong support and encouragement around him, as he endured his suffering and hardships of his illness. Special mention must go out to the wonderful nurturing caregivers and the Senior Citizens Program of the Pueblo of Pojoaque, Ambercare and to the individual caregivers who gave their time to be with him. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at 68 West Sunbird Lane in the Pojoaque Pueblo with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. and a devotional service to immediately follow. Burial to take place on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family of Richard Tapia has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
