RICHARD “RICHIE” SALAZAR, 27, a resident of Alcalde, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Luis Maestas and paternal grandfather, Abad Salazar. Richie shared his smile with the world; his warm compassionate ways created a feeling that could be felt inside and out. His laugh and smiles were so contagious they brought so much love to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Richie is survived by his parents, Richard and Margaret Salazar; maternal grandmother, Irene Maestas; paternal grandmother, Corine Salazar; uncles and aunts, Mario Maestas and wife Berlinda, Robert Salazar and wife Naomi, Victor Salazar and wife Susie, DeVanna Ortega, Lois Rael and husband Jerry, Lorraine Smith, Margaret Archuleta and companion Arnold Sanchez, Yvonne Salazar and companion Sam Estrada; his beloved, Astro and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial to follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Mario Maestas, Jeres and Jerad Rael, Tommy and Marcos Archuleta and Lawrence Salazar. The family of Richard “Richie” Salazar has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
