Reyes “Rex” Roybal, 62, a resident of Velarde, passed away on September 30th after a lengthy illness. He loved fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He especially loved working on his garden and took great pride in keeping it clean. He pulled every weed spending up to 6 hours a day in that garden. During the rest of the day he read the newspaper and was knowledgeable in current events. He took great joy in visits with his nieces and nephews and always had candy for them when they arrived. He served in the Army for 4 years and was stationed in Panama for 3 ½ years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reyes and Cordelia Roybal. He is survived by his son Tommy Salazar (Ralphie) of Albuquerque; his brother, Clarence Roybal (Hilda) of California; his sisters, JoAnn Glick (Larry), Mildred Montoya (Benito), Gloria Martinez (Belarmino) all of Velarde, Loyola Trujillo (Elmer) of Albuquerque, Doreen Montoya (Leroy) of Pojoaque, Joyce Herrera (Benjamin) of El Guache, Karen Martinez (Paul) of Chimayo, and Pam Roybal of Velarde; Aunt Irene Maestas of La Puebla and Uncle Bobby Romero (Orlinda) of La Villita; granddaughters, numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces; close friends, Anthony Garcia, James Montoya, Jimmy Montoya, and Richard Jaramillo. A rosary will be recited on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde, with a mass of Christian burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Velarde. Serving as pallbearers are Bubba Martinez, Lorenzo Roybal, Marcos Roybal, Anthony Garcia, James Montoya, and Richard Jaramillo. Honorary pallbearers are all his nieces and nephews.
