Reina Amor Garcia

Reina Amor Garcia, 24, passed away on September 11, 2023, from complications due to a horrific car accident she sustained 10 years ago. Reina was a very beautiful source of love and light from the moment she came into this world and until her last breath. She was born 2 months after her father was tragically killed and became a strong loving independent child through much adversary in her short life. She had a love of sports and basketball was her passion. She loved to attend basketball camps that were hosted at the Lucero center and a basketball was never far from her hands.

She is proceeded in death by her father, Raymond R. Garcia, grandparents Richard and Connie Garcia, Aunt Christina Garcia, Uncle Ritchie Garcia, all from Velarde. NM. Also, Uncle Michael Trujillo from Espanola, NM.  She is survived by special grandma Joann Trujillo, sisters Larissa Dixon, Tara Trujillo, and Brittany Garcia, brother Lucas Dixon, Aunts Melanie Trujillo, Marcella Garcia, and Uncles Joseph Trujillo, Juan (Olivia) Garcia, JJ (Andrea) Garcia, and her mom Lori Trujillo. Not to mention numerous nieces and nephews, and many cousins. We would like to thank the staff at Fort Bayard Medical facility in Silver City for taking excellent care of her for the past 10 years and treating her with the respect and kindness she deserved.  Her care coordinator, Trish, will always have a special place in our hearts for taking care of Reina with so much love and kindness.  We would also like to thank the Espanola Teen Center and Ben Sandoval as he played a pivotal part in her love of basketball and always advocating for the Youth of Espanola like Reina. Ben is a wonderful source of hope and strength and an amazing Mentor to the Valley.  Even though a failing body took her away from this world, her loving heart left a beacon of light for all in the community.

Services will be on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Velarde, NM.  Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, burial to follow Mass at Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery.  A reception at Club Lumina, to Celebrate Reina’s Life, will be held immediately following services.
