Raymond “Ray” Baca, 65, a resident of Chimayo, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Mr. Baca graduated from Highlands University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. From there, he worked in Española for many years as an Inspector with the Environmental Agency. Ray loved joking with his family and friends, and enjoyed watching his favorite football team, the Chicago Bears. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Baca is preceded in death by his parents: Eligio and Lorencita Baca; a brother, Cecilio Baca; paternal grandparents: Cecilio and Delfinia Baca; maternal grandparents: Ramon and Pablita Jaramillo. Ray is survived by his sisters: Vangie Baca and Teresita Baca of Chimayo; aunts: Mary Lucero of Santa Fe; Susie Baca of Chimayo; Maryann Jaramillo of Chimayo; and Emma Trujillo of Chimayo. Ray is also survived by his uncles: Ross Baca and wife Josie of Chimayo; Ursulo Baca of Las Vegas, Nevada; Celso Baca and wife Beatrice of Raton, New Mexico; Joe Avila and wife Cleo of Chimayo; and Samuel Jaramillo and wife Rosa of Española; and many loving friends, relatives and neighbors. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with burial to follow at El Potrero Cemetery in Chimayo. Assisting the family as pallbearers will be: Cipriano Martinez, Charlie Lucero, David Fernandez, Thomas Baca, Andy Baca and Alfred Baca.
