Ramona Martinez Sanchez, 97, also known as Ramoncita, Born October 7, 1916, a resident of Alcalde, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Teofila Martinez; husbands, Elisaido Martinez and Julian Sanchez; sons, Patrick Martinez and Raymond Sanchez; grandchildren, Kenny Diaz, Louie Martinez, Pierre Martinez, Sherry Martinez, and Patricia Martinez, great-grandson, Alex Macias; siblings, Maria Sisneros, Esther Martinez, and Edwardo (Lalo) Martinez. She is survived by her children, Victor Martinez and wife Mary, Clyde Martinez and wife Dorothy, Elizabeth (Bella) Springer, Fila Diaz and husband Tony, Elizaida (Liz) Martinez, Mildred Archuleta, and Nora Sanchez-Ortega and husband Michael; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a large extended family and many friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a burial to follow at the Alcalde Catholic Cemetery, serving the family as pallbearers are Brian Archuleta, Rudy Archuleta, Calvin Martinez, Julian Sanchez, Trevor Ortega, and Ben Maestas. The family of Ramona Martinez has entrusted their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
