Priscilla Salazar-Martinez, 61, a resident of Chamita passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 after a lengthy illness that she courageously fought. Priscilla was preceded in death by her father; Antonio Salazar, brother; Walter Leonard Salazar, father-in-law; Alfonso Martinez, grandparents; Emiliano and Eliza Olivas, brothers-in-law, Christopher Dean and Daniel Martinez; son-in-law, Jimmy Martinez. Priscilla loved the Lord, her grandchildren, and music, her favorite past time was going to yard sales and caring for her plants. Working in her garden brought her much joy along with cooking for her family. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Priscilla is survived by her husband, Steve Martinez of Chamita, daughters, Anna Martinez of Chimayo, Stephanie Martinez of Española, Jeanette Salazar and companion Teddy Pacheco of Cordova, Janelle Salazar and companion Robert Rodriguez of Velarde, mother; Lucy Salazar of Hernandez, sisters; Carmen Trujillo, Martha Martinez, Dolores Jaramillo and husband Tomas, JoAnn Lucero, Rebecca Trujillo and husband Felipe, brothers; Antonio Salazar and wife Thersa, Alfonso, Johnny and Michael Salazar, mother-in-law; Lora Gallegos and husband Joseph of Chamita, grandchildren; Annjenesse, Angel, Jasmine, Shannon, Shantel, Anthony, Amanda, Alexis, and Nathaniel. A special thank you to Amber care Hospice for their professionalism, nurse; Kate Korea, care takers; Mary Helen and Virginia, and Joe of Respiratory and staff; for the beautiful music by Melissa Porter and the Hermanos de Chamita de la Morada for praying the rosary and thank you to Father Brito and DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory and to all those who contributed to the Eulogy, food and donations. Public visitation will begin on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial will take place at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Cemetery in Chimayo. The following will serve the family as pallbearers, Teddy Pacheco, Jimmy Herrera, Jose Martinez, Michael Salazar, Alfonso Salazar, Antonio Salazar and Robert Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory to assist the family with funeral expenses. The family of Priscilla Salazar-Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
