Phil R. Lucero, 84, a resident of Española passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Filiberto and Syria Lucero; brother, Robert A. Lucero. Mr. Lucero earned a B.A. & Law Degree (Juris Doctorate) from the University of Notre Dame, served his country in the Korean War Veteran as 1st Lt. Judge Advocate Gen. Dept., a member of the New Mexico Bar Association. Mr. Lucero married his wife, Jane and were blessed with four children. He was a lifetime New Mexico resident and a volunteer Adult Scout Leader & Committeeman. He served 46 years in extensive service in New Mexico, Local, County and State government as, City Attorney 1st Judicial District, Attorney for the State Tax Commission, Commissioner on the New Mexico Public Service Commission, Special Assistant Attorney General, State Land Office Attorney for 5 years and Assistant Land Commissioner. Phil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane Lucero; daughter, Anita Lucero; sons: John Lucero and wife Svetlana, David Lucero and wife Patsy, Philip Lucero and wife Rose; grandchildren: Ruslan, Zia and Summer Lucero; brother, Msgr. Leo Lucero; numerous other loving relatives & friends. Public visitation will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Española with the following serving as pallbearers: Clyde Martinez, Ray Romero, Pete Montoya, Max Sanchez and David Salazar. The family of Phil R. Lucero have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
