Peter Sanchez Sr.

Peter F. Sanchez Sr. “Pops”, age 68, a resident of Velarde, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016. Mr. Sanchez was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Lydia Sanchez from Velarde; paternal grandparents, Juan de Dios and Mariana Sanchez; maternal grandparents Jose and Ascencion Romero; baby sister, Evangelina Sanchez; brother, Lawrence Sanchez; father-in-law, Elmer J. Torres. Mr. Sanchez worked for the New Mexico Corrections Department as a Guard, as well as for United Pump in Santa Fe, and EG & G in Los Alamos. He served in the United States Army and fought in The Vietnam War. Mr. Sanchez is survived by his wife, Dolores “Lolly” Sanchez of Velarde; daughter, Alichia Sanchez of Santa Cruz; son, Peter Sanchez Jr. of Velarde; grandson raised as a son, Arthur Valencia of Velarde; sister, Rose (Bernie) Gonzales of Tucson, AZ.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony (Cheryl) Sanchez of Velarde and Jerome (Valerie) Sanchez of Velarde; sister-in-law, Mary Sanchez of San Manuel, AZ.; mother-in-law, Isabel V. Torres of Santa Cruz; favorite God-daughter, Virginia Sanchez of Velarde. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 6:00p.m. at the San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. also at the San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with burial to follow at the Velarde Catholic Cemetery. Assisting as pallbearers will be Peter Sanchez Jr., Arthur Valencia, Jerome Sanchez Sr., Virginia Sanchez, Karl Libert and Mikey Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Sanchez, Tommy Martinez, Wally Martinez, Ben Casados, Paul Martinez, Jerome Sanchez Jr. and Daniel Cordova. The family of Peter F.
